Finding a home: accessing private sector rented accommodation when receiving housing benefit or on a zero-hour contract

We recently undertook research on accessing private rented accommodation in Nottingham City when in receipt of housing benefit, or on a zero hours contract.

We know anecdotally that clients are struggling to access accommodation, however, we wanted to talk to estate agents and find out just how difficult it is to secure accommodation from a private landlord.

Our results show that landlords are not inclined to let to people, and there are several reasons for this. Landlords and estate agents are also particularly worried about Universal Credit.
